Guillermo Almada: Team is working well to prepare for first game of 2020

06 de January del 2020 4:49 pm.

Head coach Guillermo Almada gave his first pre-game press conference of the new year Monday morning after Los Guerreros finished their first session of the week ahead of their first game of 2020.

The first team recently closed their preseason preparation with a friendly game against Tigres, which they won 3-2 in Monterrey, and has been working consistently since the beginning of December with very few days off.

"We haven't really had a lot of vacation time, it was a very short period," he said. "When we do things well, we want to keep perfecting that and when things aren't going well, we want to keep evolving," he added. "We have a young team. We need to have patience and perfect the defensive aspect.

In the 2019 Apertura we were the team with the most goals but we also received a lot of goals and we need to keep that in check."

With regard to this Friday's rival, Almada pointed out that being the only team in Liga MX to play on a synthetic field, Xolos will have an advantage and that it will most definitely be a factor.

"Their field is a very important factor," he said. "We're trying to adapt here (on our synthetic field at TSM), it's something that we don't compete on here."

With regard to Xolos' new head coach, Gustavo Quinteros, Almada commented that shares coaching time in Ecuador in common with the Argentine.

"He has a style of play that I know from when he was in Ecuador," he commented. "We don't have a profound knowledge of his team as it is because we haven't seen them compete but our idea is to go in prepared, propose our collective style of play that does damage, and especially up top."

Finally, he mentioned the group's focus on incorporating youth players to follow in line with the club's mission of developing players for the future.

"We have a good quantity of youth players that complement our roster and we're satisfied with the way they've worked," he said.

"It's part of our philosophy to always make sure we're conscious of that aspect."
