Santos Laguna's U17 and U20 teams will begin their respective quests for the playoffs this week against Tijuana and Veracruz in the quarterfinals.
The U17 team, led by Mario Menendez and Juan Pablo Rodriguez, finished the regular phase with a 9-3-6 record and 40 points. A fourth-place finish pits them against fifth-place Xolos de Tijuana, who finished 9-2-7 and 39 points.
Mexico U17 international Santiago Muñoz will be available for the playoffs to help the group, having recently returned from the U17 World Cup, where El Tri finished runners up. The 16-year-old El Paso-native was nominated for Goal of the Tournament by FIFA and won by a voting system for the public.
Tijuana will host the first leg at Estadio Caliente on Thursday, and los Guerreros will host the return leg at Territorio Santos Modelo on Sunday morning for a pass to the semis.
Santos Laguna U17 holds three titles, won the 2015 Apertura, the 2017 Apertura, and the 2018 Clausura.
The U20 finished the regular phase in second place and will play Veracruz in the quarterfinals, hosting the return leg on Sunday afternoon, December 1.
The group, led by Omar Tapia and Rafael Figueroa, went 11-3-4 while boasting a strong home record with seven wins, a draw, and a loss at TSM.
Five players registered with the group saw minutes with the first team during the 2019 Apertura. Adrian Lozano, Diego Medina, Edgar Games, Jonathan Diaz, and Camil Brena will be available to dispute games in the playoffs with the U20 after spending a majority of the tournament playing up a category.
Santos' U20 team also holds three titles since 2013, the most recent coming in the 2017 Apertura.
