Santos midfielder Ulises Rivas, who has amassed more than 600 minutes this tournament, says the team is working double sessions throughout the week to keep pace with the momentum that has them tied for first place in points with Queretaro after eight weeks of league play.
“The moment we're living isn't really a surprise because we had a great preseason and it's been reaffirmed throughout the tournament, but this beginning is of no use if we fail to sustain it," he said.
The Santos youth product said the team is taking advantage of the international break to fine tune details and work extra hard to keep the momentum going.
“We can't relax, on the contrary - we must continue to the fullest. We will be working this week in double sessions and it's something (we) have to take with that responsibility so as not to lose the focus that we have shown in our last games.
"We are working to maintain the rhythm of the game that we have demonstrated and we are also focused on possession to not depend so much on our intensity."
Santos Laguna will continue to work throughout the week, holding double sessions during the international break before returning to league action on September 15 at Territorio Santos Modelo against Pachuca for matchweek nine.
