Rivals on the field are now united by more than ownership, as Club Santos Laguna and Atlas Fútbol Club joined forces on Thursday afternoon for a social activity one day before facing each other on the football field.
Both teams visited children at facilities of CODENI, a Guadalajara-based institution that works in the best interests of 120 children living in poverty, where Santos Laguna players Jose Juan Vazquez, Jose Javier Abella, and Brian Garnica joined Facundo Barceló, Manu Balda and Diego Barbosa from Atlas for an afternoon of football clinics and activities for the children CODENI supports and its staff.
The activity was facilitated through United Way of Mexico and marks the second time that two clubs from Orlegi Sports have come together in the community in the name of social responsibility. In 2018, Santos Laguna and TM Futbol Club visited CRIT-Teletón, a rehabilitation hospital for children, in the city of Tampico Madero, one day before both teams confronted each other in Copa MX the following day.
CODENI stands for COLECTIVO PRO DERECHOS DE LA NIÑEZ (The Collective Pro-Right of Childhood) is a civil association that promotes the development of projects that help the children overcome conditions of exclusion and social vulnerability in the greater metropolitan area of Guadalajara.
Special areas of focus include knowledge of their rights, educational, cultural and labor processes, living a healthy lifestyle, and financial management.
Through such activities, Grupo Orlegi, together with United Way Mexico, reaffirms its commitment to society by using its projects as platforms to contribute to the development of communities with which they are involved.
