Another Santos Laguna youth product made his debut with the first team, continuing in the club's mission to develop from within and produce players for the future.
Adrian Lozano, a Torreón native, started his first game under head coach Guillermo Almada to open the 2019 Apertura season against Chivas last Sunday. The 20 year old Mexico youth international arrived to the club at the U13 level and has been through every formative category, his performance earning him consistent calls to Mexico's youth nationial teams to train and compete in important competitions.
Lozano is a two-time youth champion with los Guerreros, having played a crucial role in the U17 and U20 titles in 2015 and 2017, and recently returned from Poland where he played with Mexico in the U20 World Cup.
Fitting in with Almada's idea of attack-minded football, Lozano has been incorporated with the team since preseason, showcasing a distinct ability attractive to the Uruguayan head coach.
“(Almada) told me to play, and be free," Lozano commented after his debut. "He told me that I am here because I had won my spot, that didn't give me anything, that nobody gave me anything -- that he confides in me and I should enjoy this moment."
