Santos Laguna returned to Torreon from its two-game USA preseason preparation, with games against first division sides Rayados and Toluca FC in Mc Allen and Austin.
With goals by Brian Lozano and Matheus Doria, los Guerreros posted two 1-1 draws in each city, sending both games to penalties. Goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo made two stops in Mc Allen against Rayados for the victory, while in Austin, two missed penalties saw Toluca take the win to close out the series.
Guillermo Almada's attacking style of play shone through over four preseason games in Cancun and the USA, with los Guerreros scoring 11 goals and only allowing three. Lozano, Doria, Eryc Castillo, Octavio Rivero, Lalo Aguirre, Diego de Buen, and Santos U20 forward Adrian Lozano all netted for los Guerreros.
Uruguayan midfielder Fernando Gorriarán played a crucial role in the midfield as a starter in all four games. The 24-year-old recent Hungarian first division champion scored what would have been the game winner for Santos in Austin, but it was determined that the play was offside and his goal was called back.
The team returned to Torreon on Sunday night and immediately returned to work on Monday, and has held double sessions ahead of its final preseason preparation match this Saturday against Atlas at Territorio Santos Modelo.
The 2019 Apertura tournament will kick off for los Guerreros at Estadio Corona on Sunday, July 21 against Chivas. The game will be televised in the USA via FOX Deportes.
