Club Santos Laguna continues to see its youth play roles in important international tournaments as Mexico U22 passed to the semifinals of the Maurice Revello Tournament on Sunday.
All three representatives of Santos - Gerardo Arteaga, Jesus Angulo, and Eduardo Aguirre - saw time in every game throughout the group phase.
Aguirre, a Santos homegrown player and youth champion is seeing his second consecutive participation in the prestigious youth competition in France, and started yesterday for Mexico in its 1-0 win over group leaders China.
"I felt really good," said Aguirre post game in an interview published by the Federation. "I feel that I helped the team a lot, both to recover balls and to retain them. Our absolute priority is to be champions and today we took another step."
"Lalo," who was named goal scoring champion of last year's tournament with seven goals in five games, said he "would exchange last year's leading goalscoring title a thousand times to win the title."
To make that a reality, Mexico must defeat Japan on Wednesday in the semifinals in order to once again make it to the final.
"I have not seen them play but I've always thought that if you want to be a champion of a tournament you have to beat all the rivals," he said.
