Club Santos U20 forward Beto Ocejo scored the goal that sealed the 2-0 victory over Toluca on Sunday, propelling los Guerreros to a pass to the semifinals of the U20 Liguilla.
The 20-year-old Sonora native has scored 20 goals in the regular phase and Liguilla since the 2018 Clausura, and offered his insight as to the state of the team ahead of their upcoming home and away series against Rayados of Monterrey. Full video interview below.
What stood out for you in the quarterfinals against Toluca?
"I noticed how well the team worked vs. Toluca. We were very well organized in defense, with a lot of intensity, we knew what we wanted and that gave us the result.
"I didn't travel for the first leg but they arrived very concentrated, with a lot of confidence in playing at home. We're all thinking about winning the title and that gives us the strength to give it our all in every game."
What does the team need to do in order to defeat your next rival?
"First it's the defensive order. Defense, midfield and be very intense. It's a very fast field in Monterrey, they have very quick players so we have to do things well, be intelligent and not not risk the ball as much in the defensive area, and look to play with one or two touches.
"Scoring the away goal is very important and allows us to breathe a little because it's an away goal. But the main goal is to win. We know what we want and what we can do, so we are very focused."
Does Santos have what it takes to be U20 champion again?
"We're a category very solid, with a lot of players who have a high level - players with the national team and with experience with the first team, and a mentality a little more developed, so with this level that Santos has right now, I think it's probable that Santos could return to being champion."
